Every vehicle, whether brand new or a damaged car for sale, requires insurance.  Most of us, alas, are clueless at choosing the best coverage and fear that salvaged vehicles aren’t eligible.  So let’s keep it simple:  auto insurance is how much you’re willing to pay versus how much you want the insurance company to pay. Decide this, and you're ready to purchase a policy for a damaged car.  Here are a few tips:

• Not all coverage is available for used salvage cars because each state uses different titles for salvaged vehicles.  For example, liability, which pays for accidental injury and property damages and is required in 47 states, is usually offered for used salvage cars.  However, not all insurers are willing to extend collision (which covers incidents with deer) and comprehensive coverage (fire, wind, hail, flood, etc.) for salvaged vehicles.
• If a damaged car is roadworthy, it’s crucial to determine the cost of the premiums offered. Premiums for salvaged vehicles might be higher, so keep this mind when you go shopping for used salvaged cars.Even if you choose not to repair a damaged car after an accident, you still need enough insurance to cover damages incurred by another driver.
• Be honest with your insurer about buying a policy for a damaged car.You don't want to run the risk of your insurance being voided when your car’s salvage history is discovered. In addition, make sure to get a written agreement on the value for your car.
• If a traditional insurer balks at coverage for used salvaged cars, look to online insurers. Again, whether you use a traditional or online insurer, be honest about your car’s history.

There, that wasn’t so bad! Know your state's laws regarding titles for salvaged vehicles and research which insurance companies offer coverage for used salvaged cars. Then decide how much coverage you want and you'll be able to choose the right policy.
